What sort of price are new rotoflex doughnuts, just been looking on Ebay and the price difference looks huge. (I don't know how to download the Ebay items on to this site, as others do), but one set are £40.00 odd and another set are £290.00 odd. whats the going rate for these , is someone trying to make a bucket load of money here from new old stock:-/

Try Paddock - if still stock... http://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/

"Rotoflex coupling Original equipment Metalstik new stock recently found to suit Vitesse Mk2 and GT6 Mk2 + 3 models only £87.50 each whilst stocks last we may not be able to repeat this offer ever"

There are the genuine metalastic ones which fetch the money, I "think" they can be had for about £85 a piece if you look about.
The repro ones tend to have a short lifespan on the cars, how short I do not know....guess it depends on use/mileage

The QH ones are like any other non originals, you'll be lucky to get 10K miles out of them before they start to split between the rubber and metal plates if you drive your car at all hard. I've had a set of originals last 40K without starting to break up and have just chnaged them as a matter of course due to replacing other suspension parst (eg UJs, wishbone bushes etc)....

You can convert to CV joints for £ 519..... fit and forget.  Ridiculous price for rotoflexes.  It is worth paying extra for Metalastik but not that much.

The original Metalastiks could certainly last over 10 years. I found the QH ones lasted a couple of years.  1 set (unbranded) I had were fitted to pass one MoT and failed the next...  >:(

My MOT tester has told me that the condition of the rotoflex donut is NOT something that is included in the test.  He says that "driveshaft" condition is only an MOT requirement for FWD cars.

Well it would appear mine didn't know that (and nor did I).  He was right though....wasn't a bit safe - it fell apart when dismantled.

Actually, I can't see how your MoT tester can be right?  That would imply that a split gaiter on a RWD driveshaft  or a disintegrating UJ on a Spitfire (say) would not be an MoT issue....  On the Spitfire the driveshaft is also a suspension link and the UJ a suspension joint and definitely safety critical!

I thought exactly the same thing, and asked several times - he said that if it doesn't affect the steering, he's not interested, and as there is an upper and lower support then the driveshaft is not part of the suspension then it doesn't matter - same as for the UJ on a rotoflex car.

It was HIS position - it would be interesting to get the debate going with other testers and VOSA to get a consistent position.

I can vouch for that :)

I have fitted them and forgotten about them LOL

They got a real good hammering on the 10CR, My codriver (Gaz) and bobbyspit (Rob) both tried their best to break them on the twisties but they are still perfect

Thanks again Nick :)

Anyone intending on keeping their car indefinitely would be wise to choose CV shafts. I cannot fault them, my car did 7 Autosolos (4 with me at the wheel and 3 with Katie F or James C driving) with them on this year, no problem, gave them a real hammering.

Must say that my last set of Roto couplings lasted over 10 years.

I must admidt I'm well gald that I've got a pair of genuine Metalistic Rotoflex couplings tucked away in the Garage ready for next time I need them. Got them for £25 quid on ebay on auction a couple of years back. Pre owned but never usedm still with the steel bands on them from someone's failed resto project and one was still in the unuipart box ;) This was admitdedly before the price for the couplings went stupid, however it was still well cheap for genuine ones.
