Hallum
Hi All,A little bit perplexed. I am stripping the rear brakes, and came to the offiside and discovered an issue. The issue is that the hub is not parallel to the backplate. This means that when the drum is on it grinds at the bottom of the plate and sits about 10mm off the top of the plate. This is the case both with the suspension under load and without. I cannot understand why this is the case. This driveshaft is not bent as the shaft turns without oscillating, and the plate is properly fixed to its mount.Any ideas?ThanksH
Clive
My gut reaction is that you need to check the bearing. To do that you need to disconnect the spring so it isn't putting it under tension. Or you may be able to try levering the upright about.
Velocita Rosso
That looks bad, the hub does not look as though its square on the half shaft eitherI had this once and the half shaft had snapped inside the hub, giving a wobbly wheel lookThe shaft then parted and the wheel fell off inside the wheel arch ...at 50mph
heraldcoupe
It looks like the bearing's shot to me. As Clive suggests, you need to get it released from the spring to check, I would expect the shaft to have considerable in the vertical plane,Cheers,Bill. Steve.G
My Herald suffered in a similar way. The trunion bushes had seized up and the suspension only moved due to the play in the bearing.
Hallum
Thanks for the replies guys, I managed to get the assembly stripped last night to discover a mutitude of issues. First as was suggested the big end bearing is shot. Then I next discovered that the needle bearing had competely gone, and has done significant damage to the half shaft which will need to be replaced. Thanks for the help, much aprriciated,Harry
